About the company
The Eiffel Tower is a historical landmark in the heart of Paris, France. Its frequently featured as a backdrop in movies and a variety of TV shows. The tower opened in 1889. It was named after Gustave Eiffel; the engineer whose company designed and built the tower.
At 324 meters tall, the attraction held the record for being the tallest structure in the world from 1889 to 1930. On an average day over 25 000 people are visiting the tower and its surroundings. Since 2000 the tower has been lit with electric lights. The lights are iconic and the show of flashing lights in the evenings claims the awe of millions of people.
Challenges
Operating in challenging outdoor environments, the Eiffel Tower lighting system required durable protection for sensitive electrical components exposed to moisture, temperature fluctuations, and harsh weather conditions. Maintaining reliable performance year after year was critical to the Eiffel Tower
Eifel Tower faces extreme outdoor conditions. The lighting control systems needed protection from rain, humidity, temperature fluctuations, and wind exposure high above ground level.
The Eiffel Tower’s lighting infrastructure required enclosures capable of maintaining performance for many years with minimal maintenance.
Electrical and control components had to be securely shielded from moisture, dust, and environmental contamination.
Equipment had to fit within the unique structural and operational constraints of the Eiffel Tower while preserving safety and functionality.
Celebration of Eifel Tower
In this video celebrating the 130th anniversary of the Eiffel Tower,
you can see just how spectacular and impressive the installed lighting system truly is.
Fibox PC 125 plays a major role in the lighting by protecting all the important electrical components of the complex lighting setup.
Our Solution
Durable & customized enclosures
Fibox is responsible for the enclosures that house the lights of the Eiffel Tower. Fibox PC 125 was used in this project, with a few custom modifications.
The installation process was unorthodox and required a rope climber: we found a viable solution via designing a special latch for this purpose.
Our products have been in continuous use since 2002, which showcases the immense quality and endurance of our product line.
Our products are designed to last a long time and to withstand all the different elements, in Paris as well as everywhere else.
Key takeaways
Durable & customized enclosures
Fibox provided durable enclosure solutions for the iconic Eiffel Tower lighting system. The project used customized Fibox PC 125 enclosures tailored to the installation requirements.
Challenging installation
A unique rope-climbing installation method required specially designed latches for safe and efficient mounting.
Maintaining performance with minimal maintenance
The enclosures have remained in continuous operation since 2002, demonstrating long-term reliability and product durability. Fibox products successfully protect sensitive lighting and electrical components from harsh outdoor conditions.
Good communication and problem-solving skills
Strong collaboration, responsive communication, and engineering support were key to the project’s successful implementation.
Products used in Eiffel Tower project
Fibox offers a wide range of durable enclosure and cabinet solutions for extreme weather conditions. In this project, enclosures from MNX series were used. The standard products were customised to suit project specific needs.
